Valtteri Niiranen new CEO of Finnmedia
Mr Valtteri Niiranen, LL.M., 43, has been appointed new CEO of Finnmedia, the Federation of the Finnish Media Industry. He will assume the position on 1 March 2011.

Valtteri Niiranen has comprehensive experience in the media industry as well as solid expertise in several critical areas, such as copyright, press freedom and EU legislation. He’s got the competence, dedication and engagement to lead Finnmedia. His international background is an excellent asset in today’s competitive market,” says Kai Telanne, chairman of the board at Finnmedia.
From 2004 to 2010, Mr Niiranen worked in Brussels as Executive Director of ENPA – the European Newspaper Publishers’ Association. At ENPA, on behalf of European newspapers he lobbied EU legislation as well as media policy interests of European newspapers towards the EU while managing the organisation.
Before ENPA, he worked as Legal Director of Finnmedia and as Managing Director of the Finnish Periodical Publishers Association, as well as copyright and media legislation in-house lawyer for the Federation of The Printing Industry, the Finnish Newspapers Association, the Finnish Book Publishers Association and Finnmedia.

Next year will have a great impact on media industry in Finland. The continuous success of and employment in Finnish media and printing industry will be fundamentally affected by the parliamentary elections and the new government programme”, Mr Niiranen says.
Finnmedia’s current CEO Håkan Gabrielsson has held the position since 2002 and is retiring after over 35 years of service at Finnmedia and the Finnish Newspapers Association.
